Avustralyalı ve Alman bilim adamları, Dünya’nın 2 km altındaki petrol rezervlerinde yaşayan en eski bakteriyi keşfettiler.

NKARA - Science Alert web sitesinin haberine göre, derin biyosfer ve diğer gezegenlerdeki yaşamla ilgili önemli ipuçları sağlaması beklenen keşif, Güney Amerika, Orta Avrupa ve Orta Doğu’daki 145 milyon yaşına varan petrol çökeltilerinden elde edilen numunelerde yapıldı.

Oksijensiz ortamda yaşayan “anaerobik bakteri”nin en eski ve derinde yaşayan bakteri olduğunu belirten Curtin Teknoloji Üniversitesi’nden Profesör Kliti Grice, “Araştırmamız, bakterinin zarında fosfolipidlerin varlığını gösteriyor. Bu yaşayan mikroplar petrolün bozulmasına yol açıyor. Keşfin petrol endüstrisi açısından da bağlantısı var, zira petrolün kalitesini bozuyor” dedi.

Keşfin, iklim değişikliğini ve dünya dışı yaşamı inceleyen bilim adamlarının çalışmaları için de yararlı olacağı düşünülüyor.
