CHICAGO - Araştırmacılar, Etiyopya’nın Afar bölgesinde bulunan 1,2 milyon yıllık kemik fosilinin neredeyse hiç bozulmamış halde bugüne kadar kalan, kadına ait ilk leğen kemiği olduğunu belirttiler.

Kemik fosili üzerinde yapılan incelemeler, “Homo erectus” kadınının daha yapılı olduğunu ve daha büyük beyinli bebekler dünyaya getirebileceğini düşündürüyor.

Indiana Üniversitesi’nden Sileshi Semav ve ekibi, bugüne dek kalan kemik kalıntılarını bir araya getirerek leğen kemiğini tekrar oluşturdu. Bilim adamları, bunun daha önce Kenya’da bulunan erkek çocuğuna ait 1,5 milyon yıllık leğen kemiği fosiline göre yapılan tahminlerden yüzde 30 daha geniş olduğunu gördü.

Semav, 1,2 milyon yıllık kemik fosilinin “Homo erectus”un leğen kemiği ve bebeklerin boyu konusunda daha kesin bilgiler vereceğini ifade etti.

Bilim adamlarının konuya ilişkin makalesi “Science” dergisinde yayımlandı.
